Toronto Lynx 1999 Special Events

The Toronto Lynx have implemented many new and exciting events and festivities for this upcoming season. Every day is a special day when it comes to home games being played at Varsity Stadium during 1999. All Lynx home games will feature the lovely & dynamic Lynx Cheerleaders, the Lynxster, and clowns face painting & making balloon sculptures. A special added feature will be the Danone “Play Zone” featuring 4 inflatable interactive childrens’games, not to mention free samples of Danone yogurt and Crystal Springs water. Listed below is a summary of the game-day promotions, themes and entertainment.Game Day Promotions

At every Lynx home game fans have the opportunity to win many fabulous prizes and Lynx merchandise by completing a ballot at the Lynx Promotions table. One lucky fan will have a chance to win $10,000 in the “Rapid Fire of Soccer” halftime kick-to-win contest. Fans can also win fabulous prizes including a six month Colombus Centre Health Club membership, dinner for two at Montana’s Cookhouse Saloon and a Dynamic Team Sports gift certificate. There will also be numerous random draws throughout the season courtesy of our corporate sponsors. At every game this season, the Lynxster can be found prowling the stands and presenting numerous prizes to Lynx fans. At each home game this season, one row will be selected as the lucky Pizza Pizza row and one lucky fan will win a beautiful bouquet of flowers courtesy of NC Flowers. Fans who purchase a game day program have the chance to win free tickets if signed by the featured Lynx player. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and keep their head-up as the Lynx starting line-up is introduced as soccer balls are kicked into the stands, not to mention the Lynxster tossing out t-shirts from Corner Kick and The Jersey Giant Pub & Restaurant and Gatorade water bottles. Southwestern Ontario Community Day

– Sunday May 2nd vs. Minnesota Thunder @ 6:00 PM

The Toronto Lynx expect a huge turn out at Centennial Stadium in Kitchener. Our pre-game match-up features KMS Spirit vs. HRVAT. This fun-filled day includes a $10,000 half time contest, our Lynx cheerleaders, the Lynxster, a steel band, and a kids mini game. Kitchener Minor Soccer registrants have booked a club day.

Parade of Champions

– Sunday May 30th vs. Jacksonville Cyclones @ 6:00 PM.

The Home Opener at Varsity Stadium will recognize excellence in soccer including Ontario Cup and OFSAA High School championship teams. This day will honour Ontario’s finest competitive youth soccer players. Franciso Marcos, A-League Commissioner, will be performing the celebrity kick. The half-time entertainment includes a kids mini-game, the Lynxster, cheerleaders and a fan club mass rally. Pickering & North Mississauga have booked a club day.

School Day

Wednesday June 2nd vs. Connecticut Wolves @ 12:30 PM.

Toronto area schools will be in attendance in tremendous numbers as both high school and elementary boards in the GTA will be invited to enjoy a day of big league pro soccer. The schools who took advantage of the Lynx “grass roots” teaching module will be the primary focus as well as the Lynx players alma mater. An elementary and high school obstacle course race is scheduled for halftime entertainment.

Mascot Night

Sunday June 6th vs. Charleston Battery @ 6:00 PM.

During this special day Toronto area companies and organizations will be sending their employees and company mascots. Numerous mascots will be performing during the game and participating in a halftime mascot soccer match. Caledon, West End United and Woodbridge have all booked a club day.

Senior Games Night

Tuesday June 22nd vs. Lehigh Valley Steam @ 7:30 PM.

The Ontario Senior Games Committee will be sending their senior athletes to be honoured for their achievements in various recreational sports. As well, many Senior Groups and Clubs throughout the GTA will be in attendance to enjoy an evening of big league pro soccer. A kids mini-game is scheduled for half time entertainment. Union-Milliken and Clairlee-West have booked a club day.

“Danone” Canada Day

Thursday July 1st vs. Milwaukee Rampage @ 7:30 PM.

A Canada Day bash full of festivities is planned for the thousands in attendance to celebrate Canada’s birthday courtesy of Danone. The Ontario Youth Soccer League will host a pre-game between the Burlington Sting and the Oakville Phoenix at 4:30 PM. Holger Osieck, Team Canada Head Coach, will be performing the Celebrity Kick. The Royal Canadian Air Cadets flag party and marching unit will be a part of the Opening Ceremonies along with a Silent Drill Team demonstration at halftime. The first 500 fans will be given a Canadian mini-flag upon entrance. Danone is the official game sponsor and as always will provide all fans the opportunity to play in their “Play Zone” featuring interactive games. All fans will receive free Danone yogurt and Crystal Springs water. This special day is also a Mississauga & Brampton club day.

Carnival Night

Saturday July 10th vs. Raleigh Express @ 7:30 PM.

This day will be a fun and entertaining evening for both the young and old. A pre-game match between Uruguay and the North York Hearts will take place at 4:30 PM. Fans can have their faces painted or balloon sculptures made during the entire game or drop by the Danone “Play Zone” and bounce around in their interactive games area. The Instant Replay Flyball Team will provide the halftime entertainment by putting on a dog relay race. Richmond Hill, North York Hearts, West End United and Clarkson-Sheridan will all be having their club day during this evening.

“Umbro” Referee Night

Tuesday July 13 vs. Pittsburgh River Hounds @ 7:30 PM.

The Ontario Referee Association will be recognized, as Toronto area officials from all sports will be honoured for their role in youth and adult sports. A halftime referee/media shoot-out is scheduled and sure to be entertaining for the fans. A few of the celebrities include, Nick Kypreos, CTV Sportsnet broadcaster & former Maple Leaf and Master T from MuchMusic. Umbro is the official game sponsor and will be providing fans with tons of free merchandise. Metro RC & Uxbridge have booked club days.

“Molson” Emergency Services Night

– July 25th vs. Rochester Raging Rhinos @ 7:00 PM.

Toronto’s finest emergency crews will be out in huge numbers including the Toronto Police, Ambulance, Fire Fighters, RCMP, St. John’s and the Red Cross. Emergency mascots Sparky, Police Bear, Sandy the Safety Dragon and Safety Bear will all be attending. The Fire Fighters colour guard and pipe/drum band along with the Toronto Police pipe band and ceremonial unit will be a part of the opening ceremonies. The evening will also feature bike units, an antique ambulances, police cars and a 57 Chevy. Our halftime show will include the Toronto Fire Fighter Combat Challenge team, who finished 2nd at the World Championships and a Toronto Ambulance halftime “Take Down” demonstration. The Molson Extreme Team will be giving all fans plenty of free giveaways. Dixie, Scarborough Blizzard and Chinguacousy have all booked club days, which looks to be the Lynx’s biggest crowd yet. Please note this game will be televised live on CTV Sportsnet.

Carib Fest

Friday July 30th vs. Boston Bulldogs @ 7:30 PM.

A strong showing from the Caribbean community is expected and the sound of steel drums and Caribbean dance groups will entertain those in attendance. Numerous Caribbean social and community groups will be in attendance. The Shamrocks and Newmarket have booked a club day.

Scouts Day

Sunday August 1st vs. Atlanta Silverbacks @ 7:00 PM.

“Salute to Scouting”. This fun-filled day will be dedicated to the Boys Scouts of Canada. Be sure to join us early for the Ontario Youth Soccer League pre-game between Chinguacousy and North Scarborough at 4:00 PM. All fans in attendance on this special day will receive a free pack of Oreo cookies courtesy of Nabisco. An interactive halftime show is scheduled for all fans to participate. The Erin Mills Soccer Club has booked a club day.

“Mondetta Telecommunications” Multicultural Night

Friday August 27th vs. Rochester Raging Rhinos @ 7:30 PM.

A very diverse crowd will be in attendance and recognized during this evening of soccer. Numerous multi-cultural groups will be performing as part of the evenings entertainment line-up. CHIN’s own Johnny Lombardi will be performing the celebrity kick. The Toronto Lion/Dragon Dance Group, Northern Legs Southern Fists, consisting of martial arts and acrobats will be one of many multi-cultural groups performing at halftime. Mondetta Telecommunications will be the game sponsor and provide fans in attendance with special gifts. The Etobicoke Soccer Club and West End United have booked a club day.

Ontario Special Olympics

Wednesday September 1st vs. Long Island Rough Riders @ 7:30 PM.

The Lynx will recognize those special athletes with a mental disability. The Special Olympics will have a special Olympic mini-game as many Special Olympians will be recognized. The Shriners chanters, clowns, concert band, drum corps, pipe band, scooters and steel band will be contacted to provide the evenings entertainment. This special day will be a fun-filled and entertaining evening of Big League Pro Soccer.

Girl Power Day

Saturday September 4th vs. Staten Island Vipers @ 7:30 PM.

The main focus will be on todays women as numerous womens teams in the Greater Toronto Area will be in attendance. The female Ontario Cup Champions will be recognized during this special evening. Accordingly, all entertainment will focus on women, as there will be a youth girl mini-game in addition to the Ontario Youth Soccer League pre-game match that will feature two of the best girls teams in the province. Burlington has booked a club day.
